As we know a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the small Caribbean nation of Haiti on Tuesday 12th January 2010. It primarily affected the cities of Port-au-Prince, Carrefour and Jacmel, all located in the West Province area which has an estimated population of 2.2 million – Tens of thousands are feared dead and millions affected.
The UK Islamic Mission launched an emergency appeal through its network of UK Mosques on Tuesday afternoon. The West London Islamic Centre has so far raised over £500 locally and its appeal is still on going.
Funds will be sent via sister organisations and humanitarian relief agencies to provide shelter, food, restoring water, sanitation facilities and providing medical care for those most in need.
