Morocco & Libya Appeals Update
As of Friday 22nd September 2023 the WLIC community has raised over £27,000 for our brothers and sisters in Morocco and Libya. Thank you and Jazakallah’Khair to all those who supported this cause, may Allah (swt) accept our Sadaqah and alleviate the hardships of our people. On Friday 8th September 2023 a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco. The trail of destruction and despair is heart-breaking, with over 2,500 lives lost. Many of the fatalities are in hard-to-reach areas south of Marrakech.
On Sunday 10th September 2023, a Mediterranean cyclone made landfall in eastern Libya causing catastrophic flooding. Over 10,000 people lost their lives, amid fears this death toll will continue to rise with 20,000 people missing.The eastern cities of Benghazi, Sousse and Derna have all been affected, with dam collapses in Derna sweeping away entire neighbourhoods. Large swathes of the city remained submerged and thousands of people were displaced. UKIM Relief launched an emergency appeal to provide vital assistance to those affected by this disaster, we are committed to providing immediate relief and support to the victims.
