The Centre successfully hosted Exhibition Islam over the weekend of the 14th-16th of February. Some 600 local muslims and non-Muslim visitors came to view the amazing poster displays, engaging multimedia presentations, enchanting Islamic artwork and an exclusive display of rare historical manuscripts and artefacts from across the Muslim world.
The showcase included infomative displays on the Islamic concept of God, Prophets of God, Seerah (biography) of the Prophet (pbuh), scientific facts in the Qur’an, Islams contribution to modern science, medicine, astronomy and mathmatics, the true status of women in Islam, historical examples of inter-faith accord, Islam in Britain and much more. The historical artefacts included 800 year old Qur’ans, astrolobes, Qur’ans in brail, 600 year old coins, intricate woodwork, Islamic calligraphy and artworks.
With people coming from across London, the attendees were given guided tours, refreshments, Q&A sessions and free literature on topical issues. Guests included councillors, faith leaders, the Mayor and police teams. The project officer Imran Hamid thanked the Masjid administration, the youth team and the local Muslim community for their committment, hardwork and financial support, without which the Exhibition would not have been possible.
We were delighted with the turnout and interest that the Exhibition attracted, and encouraged by the positive comments, discussions and praise given by all those who came. This type of initiative allows the Muslim community to demonstrate that we have a beautiful, peaceful belief, with a rich history and that all faiths have common denominators which should be highlighted and celebrated, furthermore faith also has many answers to the social, spiritual and economic challenges faced by our society today.
