Afternoon Tea at WLIC is a Sell Out!

WLIC joined over 80 mosques nationwide to host a fabulous and sumptuous afternoon tea & exhibition event on Sunday 7th February 2016, attracting some 300 visitors.

Guests who came from as far away as Northampton to attend the special event were treated with a delightful array of exotic teas and bake-off style, freshly home-made cakes and treats. They were also privy to a very special exhibition covering facts about British Muslim history in the UK, Islam and rarely seen models and artefacts.

The wonderfully spirited event, embodied community friendship, warmth and mutual tolerance. The WLIC Imam and other host, youth volunteers were on hand to answer any questions from the diverse group of guests. Local MP’s Rupa Haque and Steve Pound were amongst guest who enjoyed the afternoon, as well as several local Ealing Councillors.

WLIC Chair Asif Nazir said: 'With so much misinformation about Muslims and Islam prevalent these days, it is important that Muslims and mosques all over the country can flex their engagement muscles to reach out to our friends and neighbours. Thankfully we have a strong tradition of this at WLIC, but it's great to be part of such a successful national campaign led by the MCB #VisitMyMosque initiative. It goes to show that contrary to some media portrayals, we the mainstream Muslim civil society actually have very constructive and long established relations with all our neighbours, and that the best way to fight intolerance is through dialogue. We were heartened that Ealing responded so well to our open invitation with such warmth. We love this borough as much as everyone else does and plan to keep striving to serve the whole community towards the common good.'

WLIC would like to thank everyone who attended for coming, the volunteers and exhibitors who made this event such a success. A special thanks goes to our girls youth section, aspiring Nadiya Hussains who baked long and hard into the night to bring a smile to hundreds of guests!

The Prophet (pbuh) said 'That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which not many people know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, but he who falls into doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it be whole, all the body is whole and which, if it be diseased, all of it is diseased. Truly it is the heart.' [Related in Bukhari]
